Fleece Exchange

The alpaca industry is a young industry in the United Kingdom. Knowledge of breeding and the basis for establishing the value of their fleece for sale is not widely known. Around 80% of alpaca herds in the United Kingdom consist of at most 10 - 12 animals and often mountains of fibre pile up because alpaca owners cannot sell their fleece.

The Fleece Exchange will enable smallholders and those aspiring to grow a herd to ascertain a value for the fibre they would like to acquire or sell on a commercial basis.

Alpaca fibre is partly hollow, from 20 to 70 microns in diameter and comes in 22 natural colours
